Project Overview:

Enzygo secured planning permission for Water Hall Farm Solar Farm, a 36MW renewable energy development in Suffolk, on behalf of Bluefield Renewable Developments Ltd.

The project required the coordination of planning, landscape, ecology, hydrology and heritage inputs. Through a collaborative Planning Performance Agreement, Enzygo worked closely with the local planning authority to guide the application through the determination process.

The challenge

The scale of the proposed solar farm required a comprehensive planning application supported by evidence from several environmental disciplines.

Landscape, ecology, hydrology and heritage considerations all needed to be carefully assessed and brought together within a clear planning case. Effective coordination with the local planning authority was also essential to identify and resolve technical matters efficiently.

Our role

Enzygo led the planning process and coordinated the multidisciplinary team responsible for supporting the application.

A Planning Performance Agreement provided a structured and collaborative framework for engagement with the local planning authority. This enabled the project team to respond efficiently to feedback and address technical matters throughout the application process.

Our services

Planning

Our planning team led the application, developed the planning case and managed engagement with the local planning authority through the Planning Performance Agreement.

Landscape

Landscape input assessed the relationship between the solar farm and its surrounding setting, helping to inform the design and landscape strategy.

Hydrology

Hydrology input addressed flood risk, surface water drainage and the management of water across the proposed development.

Ecology

Ecological assessments considered potential effects on habitats and protected species and helped inform appropriate mitigation measures.

Multidisciplinary

Enzygo coordinated the planning, landscape, ecology, hydrology and heritage inputs required to create a comprehensive and consistent planning submission.

The outcome

Planning permission was granted for the 36MW Water Hall Farm Solar Farm under delegated powers.

The collaborative Planning Performance Agreement helped maintain effective communication between the project team and the local planning authority, allowing technical matters to be resolved without the application needing to proceed to Planning Committee.

The consent enables the delivery of a significant new renewable energy development in Suffolk.

Water Hall Farm Solar Farm will provide 36MW of additional renewable energy capacity, supporting the continued growth of low-carbon electricity generation in the UK.

The project demonstrates how large-scale solar development can progress efficiently through the planning system when technical disciplines are coordinated and applicants work collaboratively with the local planning authority.

Our Role

The project benefited from expertise across the following Enzygo disciplines.
