Project Overview:
Enzygo secured planning permission for a 34-bay ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging hub in the London Borough of Merton.
The development is one of the first EV charging hubs to be approved within a Strategic Industrial Location in London. Following an earlier refusal, Enzygo developed a robust planning strategy and an evidence-led case demonstrating that the proposals complied with Strategic Industrial Location policy.
Proactive engagement with planning officers and coordinated technical input helped secure permission within 12 weeks of the application being validated.
The challenge
An earlier application for the development had been refused due to concerns about its location within a Strategic Industrial Location.
The revised application needed to demonstrate that the proposed EV charging hub was compatible with SIL policy and would not undermine the function of the designated industrial area.
A wide range of transport, drainage, ecology, landscape and environmental considerations also needed to be addressed within a clear and coordinated planning submission.

The outcome

As one of the first facilities of its kind approved within a London SIL, the project provides an important example of how emerging electric vehicle infrastructure can be accommodated within designated industrial areas.
The development will expand access to ultra-rapid EV charging infrastructure within London and support the continued transition towards electric transport.
